I’ve been taking English classes for a few months in partnership with the company where I work, the classes are conversational and it has been very productive for me. Interested in taking conversation classes to further strengthen my English, I went looking for some similar services, that’s when I found some services that have a high value:

1st the classes are with native speakers on some platforms, which increases the value of the class hour (real/dollar conversion)

2nd the classes are done individually, which guarantees a better attention from the teacher to the student, but makes him/her have to pay the full cost of the class hour.

3rd Video requires full attention of the teacher, for 1 hour. (In audio lessons, would the teacher be able to do other tasks while talking to the student?

So I consider reducing service costs by delivering something practical as follows:


  • English with Brazilian teachers.

  • English with classes for up to 3 students.

  • Conversational English by audio channels.




So, the hypothesis to be studied is the following: Is it interesting and feasible to create an audio channel platform for up to 3 people, where the teacher manages subjects for the practice of English via conversation?


I understand that in video and individual classes, the student gets more attention from the teacher, the idea here is to increase the classes and change the format to deliver something highly accessible.



So I sent the following questionnaire to some English teachers I know:

2 Do you find it difficult to have simple conversations in English while doing everyday tasks? (1 for none and 5 for a lot)

3 How many free hours do you have per week to teach audio conversation classes on your cell phone?

4 Given your experience with English classes, at what student level is it possible to have simple conversations in English?

5 Considering an audio chat, where you conduct informal conversations, what is the maximum number of students you believe you can handle?

I then got the following information:


3 of the 6 teachers have more than 20 free hours per week to teach on the computer.


5 of the 6 teachers have no difficulty having conversations while doing other activities.


3 of the 6 teachers have more than 6 hours per week to give lessons via audio via cell phone.


5 out of 6 teachers consider that it is already possible to have conversations with a basic speaking student.


4 out of 6 teachers consider that 2 to 3 students is a good amount for a class of classes via audio via cell phone.

About values and classes


On one of the platforms where you can find several English teachers for online classes, the average price of classes shown on the platform is BRL 52.00. Of the 25,728 teachers available, 17,898 teach classes at R$52.00/hr

R$ 52.00/hr is the base value used for a video class, here, I will work with the value of R$ 35.00, following the following logic:

Making the apportionment of the value of the hour/class among the students, we have the following apportionment:

Following this logic, students more willing to have the teacher’s individual attention could choose to pay R$ 35.00 per hour, a value still below the market, as it is an audio platform proposed for teachers to use during extra class hours.


If the student chooses to enter a triple class, he will share the teacher’s attention with 2 other students, but he will pay a class hour price well below the market:

It would be interesting, then, to give the possibility for students to choose to be individually in classes or accept other colleagues, knowing that not accepting, they would pay the full amount of the hour/class.
